I want to introduce one of the best tourist spots of Timor Island in East Nusa Tenggara (-red, NTT) in Indonesia and worthy of you visiting. East Nusa Tenggara has endless beauty and natural charm. The next time you intend to visit it, don't just stop by Kupang, which is famous for its Kolbano Beach, Monkey Island, and Crystal Cave tours. Take the time to look at the beauty of the Mount Mutis Nature Reserve.
Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve, Fatumnasi Village
The Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve is famous for its marble mountains which the local people call Faut Kanaf or Batu Nama. This tourist area is about 140 km northeast of the city of Kupang and has an area of ?? about 12,000 hectares. This nature reserve area is inhabited by one of the oldest tribes in NTT, namely the Dawan Tribe.
The Gunung Mutis Tourism Area has a vegetation type which is representative of a homogeneous plateau. This area is also dominated by various types of ampupu (Eucalyptus urophylla) and sandalwood (Santalum album). Apart from the two types of plants, there are still numerous other types such as ferns, grasses, etc. Likewise, the diversity of Fauna in this region is equally precious. In this area, visitors can find Timor deer (Cervus timorensis), cuscus, Timor monitor lizard (Varanus timorensis), Timor pythons (Phyton timorensis), Timor punai (Treon psittacea), Timor betet (Apromictus jonguilaceus), Timor pergam (Ducula cineracea), etc.
Another exciting thing to witness is how the indigenous tribes of this region use branches and large branches to make a home for honey-producing forest bees. For local people, forest bees help them sustain the economic life of livestock and agricultural products. Overall the topography of the Mutis Forest Group is dense with hilly to mountainous reliefs and sloping to steep slopes. While the field condition of the Mount Mutis Nature Reserve area and its surroundings are bumpy to alpine, most of the area has a slope of 60% and above. The highest peak is Mount Mutis with an altitude of 2,427 meters above sea level.
Gunung Mutis and its surroundings are the wettest areas on the island of Timor, rain falls almost every month with the highest rain frequency occurring from November to July, temperatures range from 14'C - 29'C, and in extreme conditions can drop to 9'C. High-speed strong winds arise from November to March. The state of rain falls almost every month throughout the year, allowing the Gunung Mutis Nature Reserve area to become the primary water source for the three essential watersheds on Timor Island, namely Noelmina and Noel Benain in the south and Noel Fail in the north. Drainage of the river flow is patterned with dendritis (Noel Mina and Noel Benain) as a result of surface complexity in the south and parallel patterns (Noel Fail) due to relatively uniform slope in the north.
Mount Mutis in TTS Regency, NTT Province is included in the 10th most popular plateau category in Indonesia in the 2018 Award of Indonesian Charm Award category.Enjoy the Gunung Mutis Forest Honey
