Even though male video games still dominate it, it has also begun to be glimpsed by womenfolk. This statement was also supported by a survey conducted by Newzoo recently.
In data presented by Newzoo, more than 46% of game fans in the world are girls. The overall amount is not half-hearted. It is said that around 1 billion girls in the world are game players.
Newzoo divides gamers into eight segments in its research. The eight are separated based on the playing habits or tendencies of the player.
The top two segments of girl gamers are mentioned as "time filler" or players who play to spare time, as well as "cloud gamers" which can be explained as high-quality game lovers but prefer free games with discounted content.
It was stated that the majority of girl gamers are mobile game players. Even this fact is by the segmentation presented by Newzoo.
From the data, they concluded that female gamers were more able to refrain from spending their money on gaming purposes than men who were willing to spend money on the game. Even so, they will still buy the game or the content in it with a note if deemed necessary.
Interestingly, Newzoo says that esports has a role in the high number of female gamers in the world. According to him, girl gamers also consider themselves as gamers by watching esports matches.
Of the number 1 billion girl gamers mentioned above, 6% of them are included in the "backseat viewers" category, aka those who rarely play games, but like to see esports and derivative content.
Admittedly, esports is experiencing rapid development. Some other countries have also enjoyed this development. Although still dominated by men, it cannot be denied that girls also have a share in esports development.
