5 Reasons America Is So Fear of Huawei Technology

Google decided to no longer allow Huawei, the second largest mobile phone company in the world, to access security updates on the Android operating system.

That means Huawei's new device will lose access to several applications.

Google took this step after US President Donald Trump announced a national emergency last week "to protect US computer networks from foreign enemies." Analysts believe the policy is "intentionally directed at Huawei."

In addition to producing cellphones, Huawei also makes communication equipment. It is estimated that Huawei controls around 40 to 60 percent of networks worldwide.

Here are five things that make the West very worried about Huawei:

1. Super fast 5G network

Huawei is currently negotiating with many countries to supply the fifth generation super-fast network system, 5G.

This system is so fast that it is ideal for use on products such as self-driving cars.

If the 5G infrastructure uses Huawei products, competitors claim Huawei "can read messages sent over the network or even turn off the network, which will certainly cause serious interference."

Even before President Trump issued an executive order, the US government had urged their allies not to use Huawei products.

This appeal focused on a group commonly called "Five Eyes," which consisted of America, Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The five countries have very close intelligence cooperation and share confidential information, often electronically.

Washington threatens to stop sharing confidential information if networks in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand use 5G equipment made by Huawei.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that if countries were using Huawei's 5G network products, "We will no longer share information." Huawei, on various occasions, rejected accusations of spying for the Chinese government.

However, those who criticized said the law in China did not allow the company to refuse the government's request to obtain intelligence.

Concerns of the government accessing company data, among others, are based on practices that apply in the US itself.

Former US Security Agency contractor, NSA, Edward Snowden, revealed that US intelligence agencies hacked data belonging to technology companies, including Google and Yahoo.

Outside of security interests, of course, there are business benefits if many countries boycott 5G equipment from Huawei.

2. Finger robot scandal

This case is related to Huawei employees accused of stealing finger robots. Robots tasked with tapping a finger on the screen of a cellphone as he left the T-Mobile telecommunications company's design laboratory. This employee claimed that the robot "accidentally fell into his bag."

T-Mobile at that time did have cooperation with Huawei. The German company did not accept the reason and took his case to court.

Email communication requires that employees "do not act alone and are likely to be governed by senior executives in China."

This was one of the reasons for Huawei's finance director Meng Wanzhou's arrest in Canada at the request of the US last year.

3. Veiled Collaboration with Iran

Meng rejected the charges and attempted to cancel the extradition request by the US.

Another accusation brought against him was that Huawei "has cooperation with Iran."

Allegedly he was part of Iran's efforts to avoid US sanctions, through a company called Skycom.

He was charged with lying to banks and the US government about cooperation with Iran.

Meng, daughter of the founder of Huawei, rejected this accusation.

He can be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison if extradited and found guilty by a court in the United States.

4. An anti-broken phone display case

Another case that makes the US worried about being associated with "anti-broken screens."

According to Bloomberg, Huawei was investigated by the FBI for allegedly violating international arms trade regulations.

This case began when the company Akhan Semiconductor held talks with Huawei to supply a super-strong screen, which was made by attaching an artificial gem layer on the screen.

Huawei's screen sample was returned a few months later in a state of severe damage.

The FBI suspects Huawei is taking this sample outside America, a practice that is prohibited by international regulations because this sample has the potential to be used for testing laser weapons.

Huawei, again, rejects the FBI's accusations.

5. There is no death

Despite several cases, coupled with Google's steps, Huawei is expected to remain a valuable global player,

For many countries, especially in Asia and Africa, the price of technology products offered by Huawei is much lower than American and European companies.

This price aspect guarantees that Huawei will still dominate the global share.

Even in Britain, the closest US ally, there is still a debate over whether the 5G infrastructure should use Huawei products.

The British defense minister was recently fired for including components made by Huawei in "areas that are not too important."
